Life Goes On!

Things have been so crazy around here! I finally feel like I am getting a handle on life again! Shelby has been keeping us on our toes- after we brought her home from the hospital she was really fussy and cried a lot! Acid Reflux runs in my family so that is what the doctor was treating her for- after a few weeks of treating her for this she still wasn't much better- and Jon's mom called and let me know that 3 of her kids were allergic to her breast milk. I had already been put on a strict diet of no dairy and nothing with citric acid in it (which if you notice- it is in a lot of things!) so like no citrus fruit, no fruit juices, nothing with tomato- etc. plus the regular no chocolate, spicy things, etc- and nothing was changing. So I told my doc about this allergy and he was kind of like 0 it's really rare- you could try here on formula over the weekend kind of a thing- but he wanted us to buy Nutramigen-way expensive and it was still milk based- Anyways we had a soy formula on hand ans we gave it to her and she did a complete 180! She has chunked up and is doing really well! Then he had us add rice cereal to her bottles to help her keep from spitting up as much- and that has done well until the last few days- it has totally given her diarrhea and so we have been giving baths and changing so many outfits everyday- tons of fun! Gabe in the mean time has been busy trying to help as much as he can with everyone and everything- what a sweet boy! So that is the latest- life is going on!

Seriously, when we first brought Mason home... I didn't sleep for 2 weeks I would stay awake and watch him sleep to make sure he wae breathing and didn't need me... I went a lil delirious and started calling him Ephraim (my nephew's name) and I told Micah I wanted my sister to come pick up her baby!

Your doing better than I did!

Oh she'll get the hang of things! It's hard being born! Hang in there. When she gets to the 3 month mark life will be "normal" again. Good luck!

Reading your blog tonight, brought flashbacks to Sophia..We had the same problem. She would not keep anything down.Had to do the Nutra form. too., that did not work, tried to do an EGD tosee the problem, finally at 1 1/2 months, put her on soy formula (Carnation brand) and put rice in it and worked better.! To this day still has some reflux.Hang in there it will get better, and remember to take care of yourself too!

What a GREAT Mommy you are!!!! I need to come see little Shelby....I just LOVE when they get chunky...it is one of my favorite things about little babies. Remember if you need anything...just let me know, I'm just a call away!!

Wouldn't it be nice if they things could be a little more black and white with our new borns. Unfortunatly that is not the case and we tend to not get much sleep initially, however, things do get better. Just remember that no one knows you and your little Shelby more so always go with those instincts that you get. You are a great mom, keep your chin up and enjoy her, before you know it she will be teething.

I'm glad to hear little Shelby is doing better. Allergic to breast milk? Crazy. Hey, I'm sorry I missed you today, would've liked to have seen those two cute kids of yours. Thanks for the sweet card. Now how about some more pictures of that darling little baby of yours!
